KJAS Pop Tab Tally 2008: 96 lbs!! Wow! 2nd place at NJAS....let's go for 100 in 2009! So collect pop tabs all year long and let us know how you are doing. We'll total it up at the Preview Show before heading to NJAS 09 in Georgia. Above, Amanda Laas, Meghan Blythe and Ashley Laas show off the total pop tabs from Kansas before turning them in for the contest! |

The Pop Tab collection does impact the Sweepstakes award! The goal for the entire NJAS is 20,000 pop tabs. Last year, the chairmen of the Kansas Pop Tab committee Ashley Laas and Meghan Blythe had set a goal for KJAA of 2 pounds...and Kansas juniors totally came through and smashed that goal by bringing 96 pounds of pop tabs to the NJAS. Unfortunately, that was only enough for second place in the competition. But the good news is that the Angus Juniors from across the nation made it possible for families to spend more than 4 nights at the Ronald McDonald House free of charge. This is an awesome community service project and lots of fun! Kansas Juniors will continue to collect pop tabs in the 2008-09 season and hope to beat last year's total. Tabs will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, a charity that provides families of seriously ill children a place to stay while the child is in the hospital. According to the website for Ronald McDonald House Charities (rmhc.org) pop tabs are collected because the tabs are of a higher quality aluminum than the cans. It takes 144 pounds of pop tabs for one family to stay one night at a Ronald McDonald house. As you collect pop tabs, please email Meghan or Ashley with any questions, suggestions for collection and eventually totals you collected. Please bring them to the Preview Show and we'll add them all up! Keep collecting until the NJAS!
